Wyshmaster (Wysh)

Adam Cherrington, better known as “Wyshmaster,” is an American producer of hip-hop, pop, and contemporary R&B music. Raised in the Chicago suburbs, he started experimenting scratching on his father’s turntables with his collection of 1960s records, not realizing the damage it was causing. He worked odd jobs to raise the funds to invest in his own turntables, designed specifically for DJing. Using tapes, 8 tracks, and his DJ equipment, Wyshmaster developed a following in Chicago, prior to leaving to serve in the U.S. Army.

Following his service, he resumed his DJ career, spinning at house parties and clubs. It was a struggle to find new and interesting music to play at these events. After watching how people reacted to different music, he knew it was time to stop spinning other people’s music and to create his own. Trained in piano, Wyshmaster purchased his first keyboard and began experimenting with making beats. With the emergence of the Internet, and the ease of posting compositions online, he began posting his own beats and getting positive feedback.

Soon after, Wyshmaster began selling his beats to artists. Although a good business, not every artist had the means to purchase a track at full price, so he began leasing his music. This allowed a number of people to use the same beat for a more affordable licensing fee. He built his own website and uploaded his beats, which allowed his music to become available internationally for singers, rappers, and songwriters alike. Wyshmaster is known for being one of the originators to license music online and to develop this idea that is still used by many producers today.

With his increased recognition, Wyshmaster was hired in 2004 to produce the music for NBA Ballers, Midway Games multi-million selling game of the year. He continued to produce music for games, commercials, television, movies, the internet, and radio. Wyshmaster has sold millions of records and has worked with some of the most prominent names in the music industry including Nelly, T-Pain, Pitbull, Tech N9ne, St. Lunatics, Chingy, The Lonely Island, Field Mob, and B.o.B. Wyshmaster was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for the Multi-Platinum selling single “I’m on a Boat” ft. The Lonely Island and T-Pain.
